Criminal to Relaunch with New #1

After two excellent story-arcs, Marvel/Icon is relaunching the title in February with a new Vol. 2 #1.

Probably a marketing move, and probably a good idea. More people are likely to pick up a new #1 than a third story-arc beginning in what would have been issue #11.

More details at the very bottom of this post at Warren Peace Sings the Blues. (Apologies for earlier mis-identifying the source).

Newsarama's latest interview with Ed about Captain America, here, included a lot of info about the relaunch.

The gist is that they're retooling the format, increasing the issue size to 40 pages and including more bonus material to make the individual issues more attractive. The new numbering should help boost sales, too:

"Criminal has been doing really healthy numbers for a genre book, and actually selling better than I expected it to, honestly, but I still think we could sell more."

(I wonder if there's something we fans can do, but that's a thought for another time...)

The next three issues feature one-shot stories set in the early 70's. The first features Gnarly, the second features Tracy and Ricky's father Teeg, and the third features a sort-of femme fatale. And, the stories interconnect "like a puzzle."

At Sean's blog, we can see the cover work that reveals, I suspect, our first good look at that bastard, Teeg Lawless. Sean shows a bit of the work in-progress, but the latest (and apparently final) version is here.

Rough dude.
